Over the course of the 20th century, The Rockefeller Foundation made great progress in the fight against global poverty by tackling some of the greatest issues of the times building the infrastructure of public health and eradicating disease, and later transforming agriculture to confront the challenges of hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity.

By harnessing the power of scientific advancements, the Foundation helped catalyze pivotal moments in the persistent efforts to eradicate poverty over the last century.

Today, it is at another critical tipping point one where energy access and consumption provide the single best opportunity for fighting poverty across the world.

The Executive Director, Smart Power Africa, will play a vital part in the Foundation's commitment to enable upward economic mobility for 200 million people by accelerating access to and consumption of reliable electricity in underserved, low-income communities by 2030.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the Executive Director will oversee the rollout of an ambitious platform of action aimed at transforming the pace, cost and impact of electrification in Africa by unleashing the full potential of distributed energy systems, especially mini-grids, within an integrated electrification framework.

This will include building out an effective facility, Smart Power Africa (SPA), to support and drive scalable partnerships in the most promising markets in collaboration with committed national entities.

It will also include coordinating with global and regional stakeholders to build an ambitious new multi-stakeholder Results-based Universal Electrification Fund for Africa in partnership with multilateral development banks, donors, philanthropic organizations and national governments.

The ED will bring a deep knowledge and networks across of the energy access and power space in Africa, and the right mix of leadership, entrepreneurial and management skills needed to drive this effort forward.

This will include supervision of Directors and other team members, building a coalition of high-level partnerships at multiple levels, ensuring effective execution to deliver results on the ground.

As a senior member of the Power Team they will be both an internal and external ambassador for the Foundation.
