ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you super-organized, detail-oriented, and able to inspire such qualities in the people you work with? If so, then a great opportunity exists for you to support the audacious mission of Fred Swaniker, Founder and CEO of the African Leadership Group, as his Deputy Chief of Staff.

As the Deputy Chief of Staff to Fred Swaniker, you will be one of his right-hand people - helping him to build a disruptive leadership movement and to reinvent education on a global scale.

No day will be the same as you help manage a rapidly growing organisation to achieve its ambitious priorities.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AS THE DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF

You will support the execution of special projects, launch new initiatives and engage with investors, board members, corporate partners and other key stakeholders.

You will also undertake some of the not-so-glamorous administrative tasks that are equally necessary. In essence, you will have a front-

row seat of entrepreneurship in its most exciting and complex form.

You are extremely good at juggling different priorities, are highly analytical, a fast-learner, an outstanding project manager, and a very hard worker.

Ideally, you bring 1-2 years of work experience in strategy, consulting, investment banking or similar fast-paced environment within a global firm.

You are excited about working with a seasoned entrepreneur to build a large-scale, highly-innovative enterprise while living in the bustling city of Nairobi, Kenya.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Extremely organized You keep meticulous to-do lists, plan your day carefully, and make sure everything gets done.
  • Excellent writer You enjoy writing and know what is appropriate for different audiences (e.g. high profile ministers / CEOs, media, vs general public etc).
  • Detail-oriented You are very careful, and triple-check important documents, emails, presentations etc.
  • Learning mindset You are always willing to seek and receive feedback and see it as an opportunity for growth.
  • High standards You know what excellence looks like, and can be counted on to deliver consistent quality.
  • Humble and mindset of service You can see how seemingly low-level tasks like scheduling can contribute to the organization’s huge mission.
  • Proactivity - You get into the mind of the CEO and anticipate what is needed way before him; you are always one step ahead.
  • Administrator You are excited by taking administrative work off the CEO’s plate so he can focus on his most critical tasks.
  • Critical Thinker You don't just execute on something, but always critically think and ask yourself if this is the best way of doing it.
  • High-performer You thrive under high pressure and work at a fast pace. You have a lot of energy.
  • Project manager - You can break a big project into smaller steps, set milestones, track progress, and deliver a result.
  • Experience - You have 1 or 2 years of work experience, ideally working closely with a senior manager.
  • Adventurous - You are excited about doing new things (like living in Nairobi to help change the world!).
