DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Assign, supervise and participate in major and minor mechanical repairs on trucks and other light motorized equipment; diagnose diesel internal combustion engine maintenance problems.
Diagnose, supervise and participate in skilled and semi-skilled repairs of mechanical defects in trucks and other gas and diesel-powered automotive equipment.
Determine priority of work orders and their assignment to personnel; plan, organize and schedule work flow of employees as assigned;
advise and assist assigned personnel; assure timely completion of work.
Conduct in-service training programs for employees with equipment suppliers for new techniques in mechanical repairs.
Assist in the selection of new employees; train, supervise and evaluate assigned employees; recommend disciplinary action or promotion as appropriate;
review completed work and provide feedback as necessary.
Initiate requisition for materials and equipment; authorize purchases from local vendors; maintain adequate inventory of parts, equipment and supplies used in repairing and servicing motorized vehicles.
Control of the vehicle maintenance workshop, including allocation of work to vehicle maintenance staff, supervision of the work carried out and checking of the finished work.
Preparation of job cards and vehicle maintenance sheets, recording job cards in vehicle records.
Undertaking maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles and operational plant equipment including their routine inspections, condition reports, etc.
Ensuring the availability of vehicle replacement parts.
Organization and control of vehicle breakdown and recovery service, meeting the specific needs of the Company.
Verifying Vehicle Mechanics' work performance arrangements and completion of management records.
Ensuring that job cards, stores issues and receipts are accurately recorded so as to provide satisfactory control and vehicle costing records.
Liaising with user departments ensuring they are made aware of the planned maintenance schedules and vehicles plant are submitted timely and user departments made aware of delays beyond the anticipated time for service / repair.
Inspecting and reporting on damage to vehicles for insurance purposes.
Maintain professional competency at all times so as to maintain the Company’s good repute in respect of roadworthy vehicles.
Ensuring that defective work is rectified promptly without further cost to users.
Advising on servicing / repair implications of vehicles in service or being considered for use by the Company.
Ensuring the adoption of good quality standards, safe methods of working and the observance of safety rules.
The welfare and discipline of personnel, paying attention to internal policies and procedures.
Assist in ensuring financial viability of the Motor Vehicle Workshop Team by submitting accounts for all works carried out.
To progress all outstanding works, to carry out and maintain a cost analysis of all works and to be responsible for maintaining complete records and filing systems for easy reference and audit requirements.
