The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) headquarters in Mogadishu is located within Aden Abdule International Airport and is currently housing some 600 personnel.
UNSOS is seeking the services of an experienced Clinical Psychologist with relevant qualifications, extensive Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental health dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
The incumbent will be based at the UNSOS Level-1+ Clinic in Mogadishu. Working days are Sunday to Thursday from 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm with spill over to weekends.
Due to the Mission operational exigencies, the Contractor should be prepared to modify or extend the regular working hours (RWH) on short notice upon the direction of the Mission.
The Clinical Psychologist will be recruited as a surge personnel under the provisions of the addendum to the SOR for Contract PD / C0251 / 17 signed between the UN and Aspen Healthcare Services LLC (â€œAspenâ€ ) on 15 November 2017 for the Provision of Commercial Medical Services to UNSOS in Somalia.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Head of the Staff Counselling Unit and the overall supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or his designate, the incumbent will provide the following psychological and / or administrative services to the mission :
Facilitate the implementation of missionâ€™s Psychosocial Response Plan for COVID-19 pandemic
Identify psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues, and diagnose disorders, using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, and reference materials
Provide psychosocial support to staff members in Somalia and those on AWA outside the mission in view of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic
Address the psychosocial needs identified in staff members with the aim of improving their wellbeing and coping mechanism to traumatic incidents including isolation, quarantine, and fear of the unknown.
Develop and implement with the client individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of needed therapy.
Provide critical incident stress management services to groups and / or individual staff when needed
Interact with clients to assist them in gaining insight and planning action to achieve an understanding of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic with the aim of attaining a healthy personal adjustment.
Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling or treatments, and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, then modify plans and diagnoses as necessary.
Observe individuals at work, in group interactions, or in other contexts to detect indications of mental deficiency, abnormal behavior, or maladjustment.
Maintain current knowledge of relevant research. Review relevant literature, synthesize evidence-based materials, and translate complex behavioral health concepts.
Refer clients to other specialists, institutions, or support services as necessary.
Write reports on statistics and trends on issues related to staff well-being in the mission.
Develop, direct, and participate in training programs for staff, medical personnel and Peer Helpers.
Participate in the review of mission COVID-19 preparedness and response plans including relevant SOPs.
Participate in development of a mental health risk communication strategy for COVID-19 pandemic.
Perform any other duties assigned by the CMO or his designate.
Minimum Education Qualification Requirements
The prospective candidate;
must have completed a Master Degree program in Clinical Psychology from a recognized university.
must have at least three (3) years of practice as a Clinical Psychologist after license.
must be currently certified and registered to practice clinical psychology without supervision, in his / her country or another UN Member State.
License validity should cover the deployment duration.
Experience in clinical psychological support to people affected by disasters, mass casualty incidents or conflicts is desirable.
Fluent in English.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in reviewing and editing documents.
Word processing, spreadsheet, database development and management.
Professionalism : Ability to perform work in a professional, responsible, and timely manner while safeguarding confidentiality.
Planning and Organizing : Ability to manage and plan own work and meet deadlines. Strong negotiating skills and ability to handle multiple concurrent projects / activities.
Technology Awareness : Good computer skills and Microsoft software applications.
Communications : Highly developed communication skills (spoken and written English) : Good communication skills as well as good interpersonal skills and a sense of hilarity.
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a demanding work environment is required.
