The Finance Manager will be an integral part of our growing team. As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for building the systems and processes of the Finance team, and ensuring that the Finance function supports the rapid growth of ALX as it scales across multiple countries.

You will liaise with the Finance Leads from each of our country offices, and be responsible for group-level consolidation of financial accounts across Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, and Morocco.

You will cover all aspects of financial management, accounting, budgeting, corporate reporting, and cash flow management.

You have strong technical and management skills, and are able to lead a small team of financial professionals. You will be responsible for consolidating accounts and ensuring their quality and accuracy.

You will also play a key role in implementing and enforcing best practices in budgeting, expense management, and procurement.


Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Maintaining the chart of accounts and updating it to ensure it stays relevant as our business grows
  • Manage generation of monthly financial statements according to local accounting standards
  • Manage all financial transactions with creditors, banks, donors
  • Act as the coordinator and main contact person with external auditors
  • Create cash flow forecasts
  • Managing all cash flow in and out of our accounts including invoicing, collection, and payment management
  • Ensuring impeccable and detailed financial records; oversee that taxes and record filing are done correctly and to government standard
  • Responsible for development and continual improvement of internal controls
  • Identify risks, inefficiencies, negative tendencies, and propose measures that reduce risks, improve efficiency, and reverse negative tendencies
  • Oversee the annual audit and all external financial reporting
  • Responsible for the proper controls and compliance, including but not limited to foundation
  • Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Advise on the optimal use of financial resources such as working capital, credit and risk management.
  • Advise business decision-makers in selecting appropriate financial and operational indicators
  • Support executives in developing and managing budgets
  • Collaborate with the Head of People Operations on employee compensation programs, employee benefit programs such as health insurance
  • Leadership / Stakeholder Management

  • Oversee an accounting and finance team across multiple geographies (Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco)
  • Foster open financial communication across the organization
  • Manage all financial transactions with creditors, banks, donors

  • A qualified accountant (CPA or equivalent) with 5+ years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Proven track record working as Finance Manager or in a similar management role
  • Strong auditing and financial / management accounting skills
  • Strongly proficient with Microsoft Excel, and experience with modeling / forecasting
  • Experience working with Xero
  • Knowledge of international accounting practices
  • Knowledge of fiscal regulation in Kenya, other African countries and internationally
  • Experience with multinational company structures
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills, including ability to interact effectively at various levels
  • Persistent, output-oriented mindset with strong ownership capabilities
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, including capability of dealing with several projects in parallel
