CrossBoundary is recruiting a full time Principal to lead a transaction team focused on unlocking private capital in Kenya.

We are seeking candidates with extensive experience working in Kenya, strong contacts across the country’s financial services sector, and a thorough understanding of Kenya’s investment landscape.

The Principal will manage a team of investment professionals tasked with evaluating investment opportunities, conducting macroeconomic markets assessments, and providing transaction support.

Experience working with a range of stakeholders (including private equity firms, Development Finance Institutions, and development agencies) to support investments in high impact sectors will be regarded favorably.

CrossBoundary is not a development firm and is not seeking typical development skills. Principal candidates should have 5+ years of experience working in high caliber finance or consulting organizations and an interest in having an impact in frontier markets.

A Master’s degree in Business Administration or Finance is expected but extensive relevant experience may be accepted as equivalent.

Ideal Candidate

  • 5+ years of experience in top tier banking, consulting, private equity or similar
  • Experience working in East Africa will be regarded favorably; past work in Kenya and strong ties within Kenya’s financial services sector are preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree highly preferred

  • Knowledge of corporate finance and familiarity with company evaluation and valuation techniques
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues in stressful environments
  • Excellent presentation skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences
  • Comfort with ambiguity; ability to operate effectively in a changing context
  • Willingness to work and live in sometimes challenging environment
  • Primary responsibilities

  • Transaction identification and evaluation
  • Willingness to work and live in sometimes challenging environment
  • Lead identification and assessment of investment opportunities
  • Prepare presentations with business plans, explanation of management structure, competitive landscape, and financial projection to recommend strategies
  • Market assessment and ongoing market analysis
  • Conduct macroeconomic, regulatory, and operational assessments
  • Provide sector analysis of priority areas for investment
  • Investor sourcing
  • Lead identification of qualified investors
  • Manage numerous investor relationships
  • Transaction support
  • Lead team in supporting complex transactions
  • Develop deal marketing presentations
  • Develop and supervise valuation activities and detailed financial models
  • Perform sensitivity analysis and stress testing to examine impacts on valuation
  • Coordinate due diligence and transaction execution
  • Oversee drafting and negotiations of terms sheets
