  • Duties and Responsibilities

    The duties and responsibilities are as follows :

    I. Managerial Roles and Responsibilities

  • a) Set Key Performance Indicators (KPIS) for the department and follow up for accomplishment and handling non-conformance;
  • b) Supervise with the Business Development and Customer Relations Team to ensure enhanced productivity;
  • c) Delegate work to all the team Members and ensure that they work as a Team to achieve set standard requirements per company guidelines;
  • d) Appraise the performance of the department’s staff and also taking disciplinary measures when required in liaison with HR department.

    e) Ensure company policies and procedures, statutory legislation is adhered to in the department.

    f) Control and management of costs associated with the department Prospect, market and participate in tenders and development of quotations to potential customers.

    II. Operational Roles and Responsibilities :

  • a) Develop the e sales plan and strategy for the company;
  • b) Coordinate the implementation of the customer management strategy;
  • c) Build key customer relations, identify business opportunities, negotiate and close business deals.

    d) Understand and convey complex customer requirements on both a business and technical level and provide solutions that translate into business for the company.

    e) Compile and analyze sales figures and give Sales reports to management on a monthly basis.

  • f) Present to and consult with the leadership on business trends with a view to enhancing service offering;
  • g) Pro-actively seek business intelligence on prospective new opportunities or partnerships;
  • h) Seek out new business opportunities and organize appointments with customers for sales pitch and negotiation;
  • i) Develop and maintain networks through attending industry events and conferences for business development;
  • j) Develop pitches and provide the required resources for the business development team;
  • k) Responsible for debt management including follow ups and collections;
  • l) Keep track of customer’s communication and ensure timely action is taken on customers’ requests and inquiries.

    III. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

    Key Result Areas :

    The jobholder’s accountability areas are outlined as follows :

    a) Effective management of clearing and forwarding operations

  • b) Submission of accurate, timely and relevant reports;
  • c) Effective management of the departmental team to ensure achievement of the set goals;
  • d) Enforcement of relevant guidelines, rules and regulations

  • e) Effective communication of all company policy guidelines;
  • f) Efficient liaison with external stakeholders.

    Knowledge and Skills Required :

    The jobholder must possess :

  • a) A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a Business related field;
  • b) A minimum of 5 years relevant experience with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial role;
  • c) Must demonstrate effectiveness in generating business leads, negotiating and closing business,

  • d) Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of customs legislation, tariffs, import / export documentation, customs clearance, bond management and customs declaration;
  • e) Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of clearing and forwarding regulations;
  • f) Must be well conversant with port operations procedures;
  • g) Must demonstrate the ability to maintain good working relationships with all the stakeholders ;
  • h) Must demonstrate ability to work independently;
  • i) Must demonstrate good supervision skills and be a good team player;
  • j) Must be flexible in work habits and schedules,

  • k) Must demonstrate high integrity and ethical practice;
  • l) Must demonstrate commitment to operational effectiveness;
  • m) Must have knowledge in use of MS office packages.
