ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the VP of Products, Product Managers will play an instrumental role in helping ALX shape change makers and entrepreneurial leaders who tackle challenges, seize opportunities and help Africa realize its future potential.
To do this, you must be someone who can bring a strategic mind, a collaborative spirit, and restless sense of excellence to the broad expanse of ALX's programs, and target audience.
This role involves owning and executing product initiatives and road maps.
WHAT YOU’LL DO AS PRODUCT MANAGER
Own the Product
Work relentlessly with business units to nail down perfect product-market fit for every product you touch
Set and perfect metrics to determine successes / failures and strengths / weaknesses of products, monitoring and evaluating them in order to deliver a better v.2 (v.3, v.4 )
Develop, manage, and groom product road maps to align internal stakeholder expectations and timelines, using product data and emerging customer insights to strategize about current and future product development
Align the Organization
Work cross-functionally across the organization to build coalitions, gain traction, and ship product’ even in cases where you do not have formal authority.
Collaborate with business owners and front-line operators to understand their needs, pressures, and financial targets;
ultimately create products that delight them as well.
On a project-by-project basis as needed, manage UX / UI, experience designers, and graphic designers.
Represent the User
Bring new products to market (or redesign older products) by interacting with customers / users and intimately understanding their needs, wants and desires
Analyze marketplace and competitors for opportunities to seize, lessons to learn, pricing to beat, and insights to gain all in order to delight our future users
Provide leadership during the product development process, making sure the customer's voice is consistently present, and keeping all stakeholders aligned on the path to the 'Promised Land'
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
An undergraduate degree (preferably Master’s level)
At least 4 years of experience in product development, project management or related field
Passion for transformative education and the human development space
A portfolio of products, projects, and major assignments that you’ve brought from idea to implementation
Experience with Product Management essentials including
Product planning and strategy
Product / service design and development
Market and user research
Problem case development etc.
Curriculum design expertise is a huge plus
Believe in the potential of students, and see them as active participants in learning, as opposed to passive recipients of information
Ability to navigate at all altitudes - from CEO to junior designer
Proactive, self-starter, able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to perform under pressure and cope with tight deadlines
Superior written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Strong passion to succeed, contagious energy and desire to have fun in the process
Experience living and / or working in Africa (preferable)
Exposure to a start-up culture (preferable)
