In the context of its investment management mandate for energy debt funds, responsAbility is expanding its debt financing activities in the areas of small-

scale renewable energy generation (e.g. solar, wind, mini-hydro and biomass), distributed energy and energy access. Investments are limited to emerging and developing countries, with the focus on Sub Saharan Africa as well as South and South East Asia.

This role supports the Direct Investment unit of the Energy Debt Business line in reaching the relevant business targets in Sub Saharan Africa.

Your Main Tasks

  • Origination of debt transactions in the areas of small-scale renewable energy, distributed energy and energy access, leading project finance transaction structures in Sub Saharan Africa.
  • Screening and structuring of transactions, negotiation of terms and conditions, and execution.
  • Coordinating and performing transaction due diligence, on and off site, with the involvement of external service providers.
  • Review and stress testing of financial models.
  • Drafting of screening reports and investment memoranda which serve as the basis for investment decisions.
  • Independent research on various markets, technologies and investment opportunities.
  • Performance and risk monitoring of investee projects and companies
  • Your Experience and Skills

  • University degree in finance, business administration or engineering or comparable relevant higher education.
  • 7-9 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a banking, private debt / equity fund or development finance Environment
  • Proven experience in structured asset finance in the renewable energy sector, demonstrated through debt or equity deal references and proven network;
  • extensive experience in conducting due diligence processes in developing countries.

  • Strong business development and relationship management skills
  • Strong network among energy project developers or energy access companies in Sub Saharan Africa.
  • Excel modelling skills and excellent analytical and conceptual thinking; ability to understand and handle complex topics rapidly.
  • Proficient verbal and written business English is required; French is considered an asset.
  • Enjoy working with, and easily adapts to different cultures; passionate about impact investments.
