Responsibilities

  • 1. Assisting in creation of design concepts and layout for UN Publications and branding of information materials; in consultation with authors and other relevant staff, establish illustrative requirements to meet communications objectives;
  • prepare design submission schedules for various communications products (e.g. annual reports, books, posters, newsletters, technical reports, pamphlets and other digital outputs for various platforms).

    2. Converting abstract ideas into simple visual data concepts.

    3. Contributing creative ideas to reach and engage different audiences.

    4. Assisting in conceptualizing and creating digital communication products for different digital platforms including videos and info graphics, animations and digital Illustrations.

    5. Assisting in updating designs for corporate promotional products.

    6. Providing technical graphic design support to the digital team.

  • 7. In consultation with relevant staff / units, assisting in the planning the design, production and scheduling of graphic material;
  • assisting in providing technical support for the design, layout, and make-up of individual pages of various communications products using relevant desktop publishing tools.

    8. Performing other related duties as required.

    Proficiency in desktop publishing, including typographic standards. Demonstrates use of initiative, ability and creativity to effectively attain objectives.

    Education

    High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Further training in graphic design industry or related graphics arts study from a recognized national institution is desirable.

    Work Experience

    A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in digital design publishing or related areas is required.

    Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suit packages as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop is required.

    Good knowledge of Premier Pro, After Effects, Dreamweaver and Adobe Acrobat Pro is desirable.

    Experience in graphic design / multimedia design is an added advantage.

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.

    Assessment

    Evaluation of qualified applicants may include an assessment exercise and a competency-based interview.

  • This position is temporarily available for a period of 364 days on a 'when actually employed' (WAE) basis and will be in effect only on the days of an assignment.
  • Subject to the funding source of the position, the eligibility for this temporary job opening may be limited to candidates based at the duty station.
  • Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply.

    United Nations Considerations

    Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
