These community health workers educate, assess, treat and refer for common illnesses like pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria that affect children under 5, they help ensure children get immunized on time, and they support women through their pregnancies and with family planning.

They also provide primary healthcare to 6 million people at a fraction of the cost of doctors and nurses.

Our growth is anchored in three S’s : scaling, strengthening and spreading. To scale we aim to increase the number of people served within our two operational countries, Kenya and Uganda, and to launch operations in two new countries by 2021.

This will be the key focus of this role. To strengthen, we will broaden and deepen our impact with new programs and products and make big leaps in our operating effectiveness.

Finally, we will spread our impact in current and new countries by influencing community health policy.

The Opportunity

Organizational growth can be dizzying for the faint-hearted but exciting for thrill seekers. To manage both growth and our thrill seekers, we know we need the steady hand of a new Country Expansion Regional Director.

You will lead the strategy and planning for LG’s entry into new countries to deliver significant impact and strengthen government community health systems for the long term.

And you’ll oversee new country operations so that they deliver desired results :

Opportunity assessment : Assess new country opportunities to ensure delivery against LG’s long-term vision and scaling plans.

Through this, support Ministries of Health to strengthen national community health programs to deliver highly impactful, sustainably financed and digitalised community health.

Drive organization strategic discussions about best bets for return on investment in new countries and support in business development proposals.

Build strategy : Build long term new country strategic plans. Coordinate all work related to building the strategy across all LG functions, with partners and governments.

Ensure that each country has a strategy that speaks to its context and LG strategy.

New country expansion plans : Develop concrete plans and budgets selecting strategic initiatives that will achieve the strategy.

Ensure that the country program is developed for the new country context, has sustainable financing, is delivering significant impact and influencing community health policy nationally, building on Living Goods proven approaches and frameworks.

Ensure new country operations are delivering results : Lead the operationalization of strategies and plans. Guide and manage new country operations.

Lead program and project implementation to ensure new country program performance. Coordinate functional requirements across LG, partnering cross-

functionally to enable successful and timely entry and implementation. Innovate and continuously improve our tactics, processes, policies and procedures to make our scaling efforts more successful, predictable and scalable over time.

Organizational development : Design organizational structures for new country operations. Craft role profiles and support innovative sourcing strategies for new country roles.

Lead resourcing discussions related to talent for new countries organizational skill, competency and cost requirements internally and externally.

People and team leadership : Provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership and management to new country teams. Hire, onboard and retain top talent.

Build resources for the future and inspire and motivate others to be the best they can be. Communicate a vision, build common understanding, align resources to accomplish key objectives, and work across Living Goods to build collaborative relationships.

Strategic partnership and relationship management : Externally represent LG and the CEO in the new countries. Build strong strategic partnerships, broker deals with governments that bring LG strategy to life.

Support new country communications : Manage communication of key decisions and priorities across all teams, from senior leadership to in-

country staff. Liaise with the LG Executive team on all matters related to external communication including with government and partners for new countries.

Lead from within : We look to you to offer global guidance on pivotal issues like where to expand, when to contract, where to invest in the organization, and key leaders to nurture.

As a member of the Global Executive Team, provide leadership to the broader organization.

Your Background

15+ years’ management of regional program operations in a global company : 6+ years of experience in a combination of strategy and operations roles.

Experienced at setting up in new countries, in a fast-changing ambiguous environment, working strategically with governments and know what excellence looks like in human resources, finance & accounting, supply chain, facilities, IT, contracts & grants.

You have worked at least 5 years in senior leadership roles, and are ideally educated to a Master’s degree level (or more).

Track record leading growth : Successfully managed growth in an African growing company or NGO one that is expanding in size (people, $) and geography (new countries, counties).

Country management experience : Led a country NGO or for-profit company, ideally more than one country. Experience coaching country directors on challenges and solutions associated with start-

up and country management.

Strategy development and execution : Experienced at strategy development and execution, including opportunity sizing, assessments and developing project plans for implementation.

Experience articulating strategies at Board level and able to break them down to operational level. Experience using best-

in-class strategic tools with abilities to facilitate and coach executive teams

Sustainable Financing : Experience building and executing a sustainable financing vision for health programs and supporting governments.

People leadership and management : Strong people management experience, proven ability to deliver outstanding results through other.

Build and maintain strong relationships with teams, colleagues across different functions, and external partners.
